that with the approval of the Executive Council Sir F. H.

May accepted on October 21st. the tender of Messrs. Him Tai

for the construction of the Mongkoktaui Typhoon Shelter.

The amount of the tender is

$2,018,002, and it is the lowest of the tenders received.

I attach an extract of a statement from the Local Hansard

made by the Director of Public Works in the Legislative

Council explanatory of the excess over the estimate

made by Mr. J. F. Boulton, Assistant Director of Public

Works, on 18th. September, 1909. The excess amounts to

$252,595, while the excess over Messrs. Coode Son and

Matthews' estimate of 8th. October, 1908, is $565,305.
